vmail

Now we have the vmail server! This changes the way e-mail works for the final time for now. This also finishes the server group on main1. This is the first pass of all those servers.

vmail is: The Virutal Mail Server

vmail provides outside access to e-mail. It can work with standard e-mail in some of the following ways, possibly plus more.
  • Be linked as the only outside account. In this way, we can provide e-mail for the user all in-house..
  • Be linked as another outside account. When this is the case, we essentially have an alias for a user account. A user could give one away to more trusted people, and only share the other with untrusted people that they need to communicate with.
  • Function independently. A user could have just the outside account provided in house. This would then allow them to use it such as they use gmail.
There are these ways, and possibly more ways to use this service.

vweb server

Now we created the vweb server! It works okay! It is the future of my personal website, and possibly more personal websites in the future. Way to go!

softi was unneeded

We found that softi was unneeded. For the solution we used to this problem, check out this forum: http://smileynetmain.createaforum.com/troubleshooting/mandriva-software-won't-install/.

softi

softi is "probably" done. softi is a software installer, which works around a problem we had when using Mandriva Linux 2010.1. For more information about softi, see here.

Where We Are and Where We Are Going

We just found out that running anything older than Windows XP, as a server will not work. Therefore we will not be building those application servers. Instead, we will be moving onto another category of servers.

What we will do with that software is this: We will eventually build a client machine for install, which will use a type of Linux. Then we will use virtual box on Linux to run some real clients. We will directly install that Linux on the machine, which will have that virtual box. Then we will install scripts which will download virtual box images from a server. We will have some sort of a menu for which one to install. Then we can run the clients chosen from virtual box.

This is our form of network booting. We will run clients older than Windows XP in this way. They will be choices for our network booting.

vwin98

vwin98 is not possible. For the technical reason why, see the other blog for the network.

vwin98

vwin98 is being worked on now. vwin98 is an application server, so that we can still run older programs. There are going to be two of these older application servers. There will be vwin98, and vwin95.
